Please read below to find information about Mazda dealer scan tools, as well as computer requirements.
Mazda and Ford both use the same type of software, the IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System). IDS is a laptop-based system with an interface between the vehicle and laptop. They both used the same VCM1 interface until 2012, when Ford changed and now Mazda has changed as of 2014. The hardware switched to a different manufacturer and design called the VCM2.
Like Ford, Mazda charges for use of their diagnostic software. Mazda sells the yearly software user license for $795.00 per calendar year. It is recommended to keep the software separated on different partitions or laptops to prevent conflicts. We can supply a refurbished Dell laptop with two or four separate Windows 7 Professional operating systems on a Solid State hard drive for reliability.
Current specs required by Ford and Mazda are for a dual core processor 2.0 GHZ and 2GB of RAM. I sell business-class Dell laptops with a 2.8 GHZ I7 quad processor and 4GB of RAM. I also install a Solid State hard drive to prevent hard bumps from causing a failure. A polyurethane keyboard protector helps protect the laptop.
I have a special deal right now on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 Tablet Touchscreen with the faster 2.5 GHZ I5 quad processor with 4GB of RAM. I use only Solid State hard drives for maximum durability.
